GUEST BOOK

Mrs. Johnson was a wonderful principal and gracious lady. She was always smiling and had a kind soul. She is surely missed.

- Sampson Family, Richmond Hill, GA

I met Joye at Hinesville Middle School in 1985, and then had the pleasure of working with her again at Lyman Hall a few years later. Her bubbling personality would brighten anyone's day. I still have a plant that she gave me over 20 years ago. Whenever we would bump into each other, usually in the grocery store, we would talk about this plant. It's the only one I have ever had that didn't die within a couple of weeks! I told her that it was because she gave it to me with special meaning. The last time I saw Joye was in the grocery store. She was shopping for baby food for her grandchild. She was checking out all the ingredients and additives listed on each jar! She was just as perky and bubbly as she always had been. That sweet smile was one of a kind. She will be missed by many, many people. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you.

- Leitha Morris, Midway, GA

My prayers are with the familly as they go through this trying time.

- Juanita Newsome, Allenhurst, GA

Dear Meredith, Amanda, and Mark, Your mom was truly a special lady and a friend to me. We spent many hours laughing. I calle don her as a client but we became great friends. When I headr of her passing, I was deeply saddened. I wrote the following poem because of her. She was and is truly a gift to be cherished. The Gift To see the best in others. To give a warming hug. To share a smile. To dry a child’s tear. To be a Friend. To give yourself to others. To be a support to family and friends. To be a shoulder to lean on. To be an ear to listen. To be a role model. To show love. To be humble. To be an adult. To be a kid. To make a difference. To be you!! You are a gift to others! Treasure it!! Share it!! Be it!! THE GIFT!!!!

- Kevin Sheehan, Savannah, GA

Mark, Meredith, & Amanda, Monday when my mom called to tell me of your moms passing I personally felt such a great sense of loss. I wanted the three of you to know what an impact your mom has had of my life. Mrs. Joye had a gift for inspiring you to be a better mother ,or a better friend, or just a better person in general. It did not matter if she knew you for 5 minutes or for 5 years. Her perseverance over health issues always amazed me. She had such an inner strength that most of the world could only dream of possessing. She genuinely cared about each and every child at her school and each member of her staff and it showed. She lit up like a light bulb when she stepped foot in that school. If asked to choose three words to describe your mom they would be gracious, inspiring and maternal.I think any of us who have had the privilege to know Mrs.Joye certainly would agree that she was a very gracious lady.I personally can tell you that she inspired me to listen to my heart concerning decisions about my children. As far as saying she was maternal,I know you three can answer that without hesitation. She loved all of you so much and I can't think of a single conversation over the years when your mom did not tell me a Mark,Meredith,or Amanda story. You three and her grandkids were the center of her world, and she let it show every day.Mrs.Joye gave me alot of advice over the years but I wanted to share with you my favorite. She said,'Tina, anyone can be a mom,but it takes alot of courage to be a great mom'.If that be the case, then you three must feel that your mom was a super hero.As the days pass I hope that your grief lessons and I hope your left with the memories of one of the most amazing women that I thank God to have had the privelege of knowing.Thank you for sharing your mom with all of us. God Bless, Tina C.Galbreath

- Tina Casey Galbreath, Richmond Hill, GA

To: Amanda, Meredith, Mark Your hurt is deep and I feel for each of you. May you find comfort in knowing how much others loved and respected your Mom. She inspired, encouraged, and gave freely to others. Her presence exuded positive energy to everyone around her and she filled the air with her love. What a lady! What a friend! What a great Mom! Those who knew her will never be the same again. Just think...you were gifted to have her as 'YOUR MOM' and you will always have her love and many precious memories. She was special and so are you. She loved you dearly. I will never forget how much she loved and cared for my Angie. May you continue her legacy through your individual lives. When I looked up the meaning of 'legacy', it said, 'something transmitted by or received from an ancestor'. We all received from Joye. May we ALL continue her legacy. May we ALL continue giving what Joye gave to each of us. God bless each of you. You are a gift. Betty Ryfun

- Betty Ryfun, Tifton, GA

Sympathy is such a hard thing to express to someone who has lost a loved one. Meredith, Amanda,Mark, Sean,Harrison and Grant, you were very blessed people to have had Joye in your lives. She always made me feel so special when I was in her presence - always a smile - always a hug - always a compliment and always a friend. She made her space in life a better place for all those she came in contact with. I knew her through you children; but I knew her through other people's lives she had touched in her profession and her encourgement to those people. I will miss her on the beach, at Christmas's Parties even when it was a chore to get there, and in live in general. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Brenda & Robert Simpson Tybee Island, Georgia

Joye will forever be in my heart and her family will be in my prayers. To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under the sun. A time to be born and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted;a time to kill and a time to heal ... a time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance ... a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to lose and a time to seek; a time to rend and a time to sew; a time to keep silent and a time to speak; a time to love and a time to hate; a time for war and a time for peace. My sincere condolences to the whole Johnson family. I have many wonderful memories of Joye in her role at Carver. I was the first PTSO President at Carver back when it opened and spent almost every day with her for 2 years. She took such great pride in that school, the staff, and the students. We used to laugh about how worried she was about the little things like getting the bushes planted before the school opened back in 2001. She worked very hard for that school and she will be missed by all.

Mrs. Johnson was an amazing woman. I joined the 'Carver Family' two years ago. In my interview she made a comment about how Carver watches out for their own. During my time at Carver my Grandfather passed tragically and my Mother was hospitalized not knowing if she would make it out. She was a rock for me during both events. She always had a magical way of really feeling people and comforting with out saying a word. I loved cutting up with her, she had such a wonderful sense of humor. I will never forget her laugh or smile. She was a strong woman with a big heart. I will miss the 'Mother' of Carver more than I can express in words. She left behind many people who will never forget how much she loved life and lived it to the fullest. I will always try to 'PLAY PRETTY!' God bless during this hard time, prayers are lifted.

Joye was a wonderful friend and principal to me. She had a way of making everyone feel special and loved - she cared about everyone at school and was always there to share a moment with.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

- Sandy Talley, Richmond Hill, GA

Please accept my condolence for the passing of the mother, sister, and grandmother I know you loved so much. Joy was a good friend to me when she worked in Liberty County. I remember Joy's quick and genuine smile and great sense of humor. She never took herself too seriously and treated others with the upmost respect regardless of their station in life. My last conversation with Joy was when I did a storytelling event for her students. Even though she was busy, she stopped what she was doing and ushered me into her office to reflect on past events. She reminded me how much she really liked me and appreciated me. I will miss such a vibrant and delightful person. Mattie Brown- Hinesville
